Caring For Our Watersheds
Junior and senior high school students are challenged to come up with solutions to address environment concerns that impact their watershed. Over $18,000 will be awarded for schools and students who participate. Deadline May 11, 2011. Learn more here, How it works here, and registration form here.

 

Community EcoAction Challenge
The 2010 Challenge is closed. Results are posted here. Participate next year and commit to live more responsibly. Get together with friends, coworkers or neighbours to form a team and challenge others to reduce their environmental footprints.



 

2009 Environmental Artworks School Contest - One Simple Act
Showcase your artistic talent and commitment to the environment and you may win a $500 RESP contribution. The Environmental Artworks Foundation of Alberta and One Simple Act invite students in grades 4 through 12 to demonstrate - through a poster, digital picture or video – one simple act to reduce waste, conserve water or reduce energy consumption. Contest deadline is March 31, 2010. Contest winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2010. Learn more...



 

One Simple Act at Lethbridge Whoop Up Days
One Simple Act is promoting simple actions that you can take to reduce waste, conserve water and save energy at Whoop Up Days in Lethbridge from August 18th to August 22nd.

Watch for the One Simple Act display and our Alberta Conservation Team in the Main Pavilion on the Whoop Up Days exhibition grounds.


 

One Simple Act at the Capital EX
One Simple Act is promoting simple actions that you can take to reduce waste, conserve water and reduce energy consumption. Come visit us in the Family Fun Town. We'll also be roving the grounds to catch people engaged in acts of green. Learn more about how you can win eco-friendly prizes.



 

One Simple Act at the Calgary Stampede
The City of Calgary and One Simple Act in conjunction with Calgary Stampede are promoting simple actions that you can take to reduce waste, conserve water and reduce energy consumption. Learn more about how you can win eco-friendly prizes.



 

Businesses Taking Action on Waste
The Businesses Taking Action on Waste contest was launched in conjunction with Waste Reduction Week 2008 on October 19, 2008. One Simple Act invited businesses to share their successful waste reduction initiatives. The contest winners were:

Chinook Arch Regional Library System (Lethbridge) – Set up a green team that implemented actions ranging from battery recycling to weekly green tips.

City of Grande Prairie (Grande Prairie) – Reduced their use of plastic bottles, cardboard and plastic packaging materials and tracked the impact of these changes.

Harry’s Auto Wrecking (Grande Prairie) – Participated in over 30 activities including: changing lights to compact fluorescents, using natural hand cleaners made of cornmeal and salt, recycling paper and reusing inventory tags, all in addition to recycling auto parts.

Industry Images (Calgary) – Provided staff with reusable water bottle, plant 2 trees for every tree of paper they use, supply 100 percent of office with wind power and created facilities for recycling beverage containers, paper, cardboard.

Mountain Equipment Coop (Edmonton) – Conducted dumpster dives to assess their waste and work in partnership with their neighbour Second Cup to reduce their waste and participate in a commercial compost program.

Sobeys (Rocky Mountain House) – Conduct cardboard and plastic recycling programs and have provided customers with 15,000 free reusable bags.
