Youth and One Simple Act

Young Environmental Leaders of Alberta

The Young Environmental Leaders of Alberta (YELA) is one way Alberta Environment is supporting youth who have an interest in the environment, conservation and stewardship in Alberta.

YELA exists to inspire youth to care for the environment by taking action in conservation and protection through One Simple Act. YELA believes that all youth bring valuable perspectives to the fore, which leads to innovation and positive changes.

YELA is Alberta Environment’s youth engagement portal where youth can learn how to engage their peers, communities and others in One Simple Act, as well as share and showcase their own One Simple Act Success Stories.

YELA also provides networking opportunities for youth to get involved in their own community. (See Networking News below.)

College and university students from across the country submitted videos about how they would tackle their campus’ biggest sustainability issues. Roots & Shoots is Reaching Out

If you want to hear Dr. Jane Goodall's incredible story, introduce young people to our closest animal relative, the chimpanzee, and educate students about the plight of endangered species, then this is an opportunity for you. The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada and Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots initiated an outreach and education program with the goal to engage more Canadian youth than ever before. Over the past three months, the outreach staff have been hitting the road to speak to thousands of young Canadians and sharing a message of hope. They want to reach and inspire youth from all over the country. Want the outreach team to come to your area? Contact roots_shoots@janegoodall.ca today.
